Denise Welch, 63, has spoken out on her dad’s death and having broken lockdown rules to see him when he fell ill. The Hollyoaks actress and Loose Women presenter took to Twitter to share a photograph of the visit with her 497,000 followers.

In the tweet, Denise explained she had driven to the north to see her father, who fell ill last Boxing Day.

He died in September this year after undergoing major surgeries.

Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding No10’s alleged Christmas parties, Denise expressed sympathy for those who abided by the rules and were unable to see their loved ones during Christmas.

In the tweet, a festive snap shows Denise and her late father smiling at the camera and surrounded by Christmas decorations.

Alongside the picture, Denise penned: “My dad and I on Christmas Day last year.

“On Boxing Day he fell ill and we lost him in September. This was his last Christmas.

“If I hadn’t driven to the north east, so anxious I’d be arrested, I wouldn’t have this memory.

“I feel so sorry for all of you who complied.”

Fans of the star responded to her tweet, expressing similar feelings.

allynorton1 said: “My family suffered an immeasurable loss at the start of lockdown 2020.

“I don’t care what anyone says. No-one should be on their own at the end of their life, virus or no virus.

“I think the world has actually gone mad, it’s utterly depressing.
