Chris Hughes supports ex Jesy Nelson as she quits Little Mix

Chris Hughes has shared a sweet message of support for his ex-girlfriend Jesy Nelson following the news that she has quit Little Mix.

Jesy, 29, announced yesterday that she was leaving the girl band after nine years to focus on her mental health.

The Woman Like Me singer was flooded with warm well wishes from fans and celebrities alike, while her former boyfriend Chris was among those to have left a supportive message.

The Love Island star commented under Jesy’s Instagram announcement: ‘The best,’ alongside a heart emoji.

Chris, 27, and Jesy dated for around 16 months before their split was announced in April.

Sources told Metro.co.uk at the time that the pair both came to the mutual agreement the relationship had ‘run its course’ and there was no animosity involved in the split.

An insider also revealed to The Sun: ‘Jesy and Chris split up a couple of weeks ago. It was all very amicable and they’re still really good friends.

‘They had a chat on the phone about their relationship and both agreed that it felt like it had run its course – they’re both absolutely fine.’

Chris was a pillar of support for Jesy throughout their relationship and appeared in her award-winning BBC documentary Odd One Out, about her battle with social media trolls.

In September, Chris revealed in his own documentary that he planned to have ‘three or four kids’ with Jesy before their split.

Jesy explained her difficult decision to separate from Little Mix, also consisting of Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Perrie Edwards and Jade Thirlwall, in a heartfelt Instagram post.

The pop star said: ‘To all my Mixers, The past nine years in Little Mix has been the most incredible time of my life.

‘We have achieved things I never thought possible. From winning our first Brit Award to our sold out shows at the 02. Making friends and fans all over the world, I can’t thank you all enough from the bottom of my heart for making me feel like the luckiest girl in the world.

‘You have always been there to support and encourage me and I will never ever forget it.’

Jesy continued: ‘The truth is recently being in the band has really taken a toll on my mental health. I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up to expectations very hard.

‘There comes a time in life when we need to reinvest in taking care of ourselves rather than focussing on making other people happy, and I feel like now is the time to begin that process.’

‘So after much consideration and with a heavy heart, I’m announcing I’m leaving Little Mix,’ she announced.

Other celebrities to show support for the pop star include former The Saturdays singer Frankie Bridge, who wrote: ‘So brave of you. Xx.’

X Factor host Dermot O’Leary commented: ‘Big love Jesy x.’

Boy band Rak Su also said: ‘Look after yourself girl ❤️❤️❤️❤️.’
