Vicar of Dibley actress Dawn French, 63, has hit out at scammers who’ve used her images to sell “dangerous” diet pills. The star famously shed seven and a half stone by exercising and healthy eating seven years ago and slammed “scoundrel” scammers for using her image to sell the “dangerous” diet pills, which have no backing from nutritionists in aiding weight loss.

It infuriates me. It’s a total rip-off

Speaking to The Sun, the actress said that the situation “infuriates” her.

She also revealed that it’s not the first time it’s happened.

Dawn said: “I think this might be the fifth time I’ve had to shut down these s****y scoundrels — using my name illegally to sell their c***py pills.

“It infuriates me. It’s a total rip-off”, she added.

The star branded it a “stinky way” to exploit people who may already be struggling with “self-esteem issues”.

She went on to distance herself from the dangerous pills, adding that the contents of the tablets are unknown.

Dawn added that “so much damage” can be done.

The tablets cost between £20 and £30, but have yet to be accredited by nutritionists or scientists in supporting weight loss.

The ads that are flogging the so-called diet pills incorrectly state that the actress’ “magical transformation” was due to the “right mix of low carbohydrates and excessive fat” in the pills.

The high-fat, low-carb diet is one that is favoured amongst A-list celebrities, including Kim Kardashian, Holly Willoughby and Gwyneth Paltrow.

The diet works by lowering blood sugar and shifting the body’s metabolism towards fats.

In 2014, the BBC Radio 4 presenter spoke at length about her seven and a half stone weight loss.

She said that she shed the weight through a combination of healthy eating and exercise and didn’t want to become a poster girl for dieting.

However, at the end of last year the star told on her podcast French and Saunders: T**ting About, that she was “back to being a barrel” after putting the weight back on.

Addressing her weight gain, Dawn said that she “doesn’t give a f**k”.

Despite not giving an exact figure, the comedian added that she refuses to “dislike herself” because of the weight gain.

Speaking on the podcast alongside Jennifer Saunders, Dawn said: ‘I’ve gone back to being an entire barrel but do you know what, I’m going to be 63 this year, I don’t give a f**k, I really don’t, so long as I can walk.

“I’m not going to be stingy to myself anymore”, she added.

“I never did dislike anything about my body, even when I was very, very fat. I refuse to be forced to dislike myself.”

Dawn continued: “I used to get really angry when I did lose weight, people going, ‘You look so well,’ as if you looked awful before – rewarding you for managing it, which is not easy, I accept that.”
