AceShowbizEllie Kemper has been trending on social media. After it was discovered that she once took part in an alleged racist pageant at her young age, the “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” actress was described as “KKK Princess” by many internet users.

The 41-year-old star was reportedly named the queen of the 1999 Veiled Prophet Ball when she was 19 years old. The debutante ball itself was hosted by Veiled Prophet Organization in St. Louis. Although the event’s name was already changed into Fair Saint Louis, it is still held annually.

In an article from St. Louis Post-Dispatch written in December 1999, it was noted that Ellie was “the 105th young woman to be so honored by the Veiled Prophet organization.” It further read, “She wore a white satin square-neck gown designed by Tomasina and purchased at Saks Fifth Avenue.”

The debutante ball and the organization were founded by wealthy white elites in 1878, according to The Atlantic. They allegedly held elaborate events and rituals for which only a select group of people were invited. The outlet further claimed that it was not until 1979 black members were allowed into the organizations, though some members themselves were becoming embarrassed by it.

Many on Twitter have since assumed that Ellie’s title has an affiliation with the Ku Klux Klan. One user in particular argued, “So…Ellie Kemper was a KKK princess??? And no one knew about it???” Another individual wrote, “ellie kemper being one of the kkk pageant queens is one of the most insane things i’ve ever read in my life.”

Ellie Kemper was called ‘KKK Princess’ by Twitter users.

The accusations did not stop there. More come forward with one stating, “Can’t believe y’all didn’t know Ellie Kemper was part of a weird KKK cult focused on segregation and pedophilia. A lot of ppl have known this for years. It was on her Wikipedia lol. Look it up, it’s A LOT crazier than even Twitter is making it out to be.”
