Emmerdale’s Kelvin Fletcher says accusations he copied Jeremy Clarkson’s show are ‘unfair’

Kelvin Fletcher has called accusations that he “copied” Jeremy Clarkson’s farming show “unfair”.

The former Emmerdale actor and wife Liz Marsland – who are currently expecting twins – are the stars of new show Kelvin’s Big Farming Adventure.

The BBC follows the couple as they set up their 120-acre working farm on the edge of the Peak District, despite having no farming experience between them.

Jeremy Clarkson launched his own farm last year called Diddly Squat Farm and documented his experience in running it for the Amazon Prime series Clarkson’s Farm.

As a result, Kelvin has received some criticism that he has tried to ‘copy’ Jeremy’s show, something which he denies in a new podcast interview.

In a recent episode ofNetmumspodcast, Sweat, Snot & Tears, the 38-year-old addressed the drama.

"It’s a bit unfair I think," Kelvin said.

"There’s a whole host of that type of show, I can think of half a dozen straight the way, you know idyllic, country living, representing the industry and giving you an insight into what it’s like, something a little light-hearted.

"So to be compared exclusively to Clarkson I think is a little random. As people can see it’s a completely different show."

Kelvin, Liz and their two children, Marnie and Milo, made the life-changing decision to turn their back on their life in Oldham for a fresh start in the Peak District and the cameras have followed them in doing so.

Whereas with Jeremy's show, the series followed the former Top Gear host as he tried to run Diddly Squat Farm in West Oxfordshire.

Addressing having his show compared to Clarkson's Farm, Kelvin insisted that his show was already three months into production when Clarkson's Farm first aired.

"We were already three months into production when Clarkson’s came out," the former soap star explained.

"So, to suggest that we’ve, and we did get a lot of suggestions, like, 'Oh they’ve just ripped it off or they’ve copycatted it'”.

Kelvin and wife Liz are expecting two new additions to their family later this year, with Kelvin explaining that having twins was “stepping into the unknown”.

Appearing on This Morning at the beginning of February, Kelvin told hosts Rochelle Humes and Alison Hammond how he's feeling about welcoming two additions to his family at once.

“So you’re expecting twins?” Rochelle asked.

“Expecting twins, yeah. And we’ve been lambing as well so we’ll have 50 or 60 lambs and some babies as well,” Kelvin replied.

“There’s something special about twins, so so special,” said Rochelle, before Alison jumped in with: “It’s really hard.”

Laughing, Kelvin said: “It is, it’s stepping into the unknown. As a parent, I’ve got two already but to have two… how do you feed? Well, not that I’ll be doing it, but you know.”

Rochelle continued: “But you’ll find your way. If you can go from what you did before to running a farm… you’ve got this.”

“Well, fingers crossed,” Kelvin said.
