James Martin, 47, has been on our TV’s for 28-years, always cooking up a storm and it didn’t stop when the UK plummeted into lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. While continuing to cook from his own kitchen, the chef took up another hobby, which helped him lose a huge two stone in weight alongside reopening his restaurant.
I haven’t done any exercise!
When Saturday Morning resumed filming, James stunned fans with his leaner physique, sporting a shorter hairdo and quite the tan.
And in a recent interview, he gave away the secrets behind it.
“I haven’t done any exercise,” he revealed.
“It’s called reopening a restaurant, it’s stressful!”
The cook also explained he’s taken on a lot of “manual labour” in his garden, so that tied in with reopening his restaurant, the weight just fell off.
“I lost two and a half stone doing it. It’s nothing to do with the gym.”
But he noted his favourite lockdown snack might reverse everything he’s lost.
“I have a Wispa Gold – and they’ve just decided to do a king-size one which might make my weight loss disappear,” he joked to Hello! magazine.
At the time, fans were shocked to see his new appearance, taking to social media to congratulate him.
“Well done James. You look fabulous!” commented one proud supporter.
“Well done on all that hard work… and 14 kilos!” said another.
A third added: “Looking good Mr Martin. Very trim.”

James admitted that while it was good he had lost weight, it came with a price tag as he had to buy a whole new wardrobe.
Thanking everyone for their kind words, he responded: “Haha thanks all. Lost 14 kilos got to get new clothes,” he joked.
Even with shedding those pounds, James revealed the most common greeting he receives from fans implies the TV screen still makes him look larger.
“‘You don’t look as fat as you do on TV’ is the usual one [comment],” he giggled.
Regardless of weight loss, he has admitted he will continue to use lashings of fatty foods when cooking on his show.
He said: “If you want to do Weight Watchers this show probably isn’t for you!
“I have double cream, full fat milk, cheese and butter and that’s just for one of the side orders on this tour,” he said of his latest cooking road trip.
“But I like food. I’ve always been surrounded by food. I was brought up on a farm, I worked on a farm producing pigs.
“You have to understand food and I am seriously passionate about ingredients.”
