Kevin Clifton was quizzed about his time on Strictly Come Dancing by his former colleagues Janette Manrara and Aljaž Škorjanec on their Twist and Shout podcast. During the chat, the trio reflected on the show’s rules and how things had changed due the coronavirus pandemic. Kevin laughed as he revealed he “complained” about Pasha Kovalev, 41, who left in 2019.
The dancer explained that there had been a rule on the show, where couples were allowed to practise on the night up until two dances before they were due on stage.
Kevin said he noticed Pasha kept breaking the rule backstage and complained to a team member.
The Strictly 2018 winner began by saying he believes Pasha would’ve “struggled” on the 2020 series, where there was no audience and tighter rules.
He went on to say: “I don’t know if it’s still a thing but, there used to be that rule where you were allowed to go and practise two numbers before your number.
“Like, you’re allowed to go backstage and have a little run through with your partner.
“The rest of the time you’ve got to stay in the area, Claudia’s [Winkleman] area to cheer on and make noise.”
The dancer claimed Pasha “never worried about those rules” and was “always practising”.
He added, laughing: “I used to go down for my practise and I’d complain to Jack Gledhill going, ‘Why’s Pasha always there?!
“Why have they got such blatant disregard for the rules?
“Pasha would’ve really struggled that year.”
Express.co.uk has contacted a representative for Pasha for comment.
Aljaz went on to clarify that rules were strict last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Dancing duos were not allowed to mix on the show or behind-the-scenes in a bid to stop the spread.
Aljaz and Janette, who are married, were kept apart throughout the process as they formed a bubble with their respective partners.

Things were different back in 2018, when Kevin won the show with his now girlfriend Stacey Dooley.
The pair triumphed to victory in a tense final against the likes of Ashley Roberts, Joe Sugg and Faye Tozer.
Months later, it was revealed the pair were dating following Stacey’s split from her boyfriend Sam Tucknott.
Kevin quit the show after the 2019 after he danced with Anneka Rice.
Announcing his departure, he told fans he would be focusing on other opportunities such as theatre work.
After his work commitments were put on hold, he discussed the possibilty of returning to the show.
“Who knows if I’ll go back to Strictly, never say never,” he said on his The Kevin Clifton show podcast.
“I think if I’ve learned anything it’s you never close the door.
“You just don’t know how things are going to go.
“I thought I was going to be on stage all year and all of a sudden that’s not happening any more.”
