Mariah Carey is not yet ready to hear her 1994 classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” and instead, seems keen on getting through Halloween.
That was the response the singer had for Katharine McPhee who had posted a video of herself lip-syncing Carey’s classic and captioning the post: “Summer is OFFICIALLY over. @MariahCarey is it time?”
“Not yet! Let’s get through Halloween first,” wrote Carey and posted a joking tongue-out emoji.
“FINEE!” McPhee replied. “But I’ll be blasting it secretly in my car anyway.”
Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” has been a holiday season classic since its release.
According to Nielsen Music, the track is “the top-selling digital holiday song of all time.”
The song hit the top 10 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 in December 2017, the first time since its release in 1994. It rose to No. 3 in January 2019.
“The crazy thing about it is, every year it tends to increase in popularity,” Carey said of “All I Want for Christmas Is You” in a 2017 interview with Billboard.
“I’m very thankful that people seem to still have an attachment to it. It makes me feel good when people tell me that it’s part of their lives,” she added. “This song just continues to surprise me.”
