Olly Murs rushed to hospital for emergency knee surgery and is forced to cancel tour

Olly Murs has been forced to cancel his upcoming summer tour after undergoing emergency knee surgery he informed fans on Friday.

The 37 year old was taken to hospital to treat his joint following a terrifying accident onstage back in August that caused a fragment of bone to wedge into the back of the knee.

In photos Olly posted of himself in hospital, he is seen resting on a hospital bed beside his laptop showing a snap of him and girlfriend Amelia Tank, and standing holding onto crutches with his knee bandaged up whilst awaiting his operation.

Despite the painful-looking injury, the singer appeared to be smiling cheerily in the snaps as he updated fans on his tour.

“I am gutted to have to write this message but unfortunately I’ve had to undergo major new knee surgery again this week, been trying my best to avoid having it done but the op was needed and it went well,” Olly captioned.

“I’m recovering in hospital but it means I’m having to cancel all my summer shows this year whilst I focus on my rehab.

“Refunds will all be available from your point of purchase and please keep an eye out for any emails from your ticketing agent over the next few days.

“I’m so bloody sorry but my focus now is on recovering and I’ll keep you all updated on how I’m getting on! Stay cheeky catch you soon.”

A statement from Olly’s PR team confirmed the cancellation of his summer tour on Friday as it was revealed that the star had successfully completed his surgery and needed six months’ time off to commit to rehab for his knee.

“I’m devastated I won’t be performing these shows, and can only apologise for any inconvenience caused. Rest assured I will be fighting fit for new music later this year!” Olly was further quoted in the statement.

The artist was due to perform shows all over the country beginning in Belfast on 10 June this year running through to 4 September, finishing in Stoke on Trent.

Despite fans disappointment, many offered up their well wishes to Olly in the comment section, along with several famous friends.

“So sorry brother!! But get yourself back to yer best! Rest up Olly,” Host Ore Oduba wrote.

“All the best mate speedy recovery,” Mark Wright’s brother Joshua Wright said, while Marvin Humes added the same sentiments: “Speedy recovery bro.”
