Sky News presenter Sophy Ridge, 36, revealed Trevor Phillips, 67, will be stepping in to front her Sunday show during her time off. Signing off today, she said she was already looking forward to returning to her seat and hoped coronavirus would be a “thing of the past” when she’s back.
“Well that is it for this Sunday and actually a little while for me as well,” she said as she wrapped up her show today.
“I don’t need to completely explain the reason for that,” she laughed as she pointed at her blossoming bump.
“From next week, you’re going to be in the very capable hands of Trevor Phillips, the writer and broadcaster.
“Plus, of course the show’s usual stellar production team.”
Sophy went on to say: “When I’m back, let’s hope that talk of new restrictions and new variants and of course those dreaded daily Covid numbers are a thing of the past.
“I have to say it’s an absolute privilege to be able to share your Sunday mornings with you, particularly through the year we’ve just had.”
The broadcaster signed off the show telling viewers to “stay safe”.
Sophy shared the video on her Twitter page, where she has 184,000 followers.
She wrote: “Felt a bit emotional. My job is such a privilege… see you on the other side.”
Many of her fans flocked to her post to comment.
One wrote: “Good luck Sophy! We’ll miss you x.”
“All the best, Sophy,” a second added.

In 2017, she temporarily stepped away from her show for maternity leave and was replaced by Niall Paterson.
At the time, a viewer tweeted: “What ever happened to #sophyridge on Sky News? No more Sunday morning shows?? @SophyRidgeSky.”
She replied: “I’m on maternity leave – you’re in the capable hands of @skynewsniall.”
Sophy prefers to keep her private life out of the public eye and doesn’t share family snaps on her social media.
She is believed to be married to a journalist named Ben Griffiths.
