Recording Academy Leaders Cover John Prine’s ‘Angel From Montgomery’ For Charity

The Recording Academy paid tribute to Grammy award winner John Prine by covering a special version of his song “Angel From Montgomery.”

The proceeds of “Angel From Montgomery” will benefit the MusiCares‘ COVID-19 Relief Fund.

Prine died of complications due to COVID-19 on April 7. To honor him, some of the Recording Academy’s board members recorded and released the special version of the song on May 22. “Angel From Montgomery” is a song from the songwriter’s self-titled 1971 album.

Recording Academy trustee Michael Romanowski, who originated the idea, said that the vision behind the project was not only to honor Prine but also to help the music community affected by the pandemic.

“We started this project as a way to raise money for MusiCares. With John’s passing, we also wanted to raise awareness that this can strike anybody,” he said.
