As Friday’s episode began, Eamonn, sitting alongside Rochelle, said: ‘The sharp eyes amongst you may have realised Ruth is not here, she’s not under the counter, she’s a wee bit under the weather. So she’s watching us at home.’

With Rochelle adding: ‘She needs a duvet day’, before blowing a kiss to the camera.

Speaking top MailOnline at the TRIC Awards on Tuesday, the presenter discussed his wife-of-ten-years and praised their ‘very real relationship.’

He noted that things are ‘going well’ for the star after an incredibly difficult time in her life.

Ruth’s sister Julia Johnson, 62, who had battled depression for years, was found dead by her husband Paul at their home in Lingfield, Surrey in June 2019.

Eamonn shared: ‘It’s been a very busy year for her and a very difficult year for her. So our concern is just to nurse her through the year and make sure she’s OK.’

Ruth, 59, announced the heartbreaking news on Twitter at the time.

She wrote: ‘My lovely Sis Julia has sadly died after a very long illness. My heart is completely broken.

‘She was the kindest and most gentle soul and I will miss her forever.

‘As I am sure you will appreciate I need to take time to grieve with my family. Thank you for your understanding.’

Devastated, Ruth was unable to go to work that week and two months later she left the This Morning studio in tears unable to continue with a phone-in on anxiety and depression.
