Stacey Dooley has slated news articles claiming she pushed her boyfriend Kevin Clifton to quit as a Strictly Come Dancing professional.
Tweeting an image of a headline claiming she was the reason he decided to leave the show, Stacey wrote: "Honestly, we knew this would happen … And so it starts, again…… Utter nonsense".
She tweeted shortly after: "Give. Me. A. Break. These articles are so, so embarrassing," alongside laughing face emojis.
Dancer Kev has not given his reason for leaving the BBC show after seven years, but Stacey posted on social media to hint that big things lay ahead of him when she wrote: "Watch this space."
Kevin, 37, and Stacey, 32, became a couple after winning the sixteenth series of the show in 2018 – giving Kevin his first (and only) glitterball trophy win.
Now Kevin is hoping to carve out a career for himself away from Strictly – where he stands to earn far more than the £45k salary Strictly pro’s are reported to earn as he aims to clean up on West End roles and endorsement deals.
Kevin announced his time on Strictly was coming to an end earlier in the week – making a statement via social media.
“Since first being called ‘Kevin from Grimsby’ by Sir Bruce Forsyth in 2013, I have experienced the highs of five finals, winning a Guinness World Record on It Takes Two, the Strictly Arena tour glitterball and then the ultimate of winning the 2018 series with Stacey Dooley,” he wrote.
“After finishing last series with the Children in Need trophy and the Christmas special I want to leave on a high and have therefore decided the time has come to move on and focus on other areas of my life and career,” he continued.
“I want to thank all of the pros for inspiring me every day as well as all of my celebrity partners,” he went on.
“The whole team behind the scenes have always made the Strictly family what it is and the loveliest show to work for. Thank you to anyone who has ever voted for me and my partners. It means the world,” he added.
Proud girlfriend Stacey backed Kev – as she wrote he is” undeniably the most successful pro on Strictly. Won everything teated every with respect and kindness, worked SO bloody hard and now leaving on a high.”
