Viewers left baffled by Mickey Rourke, 65, and his ‘toe-curling’ and ‘awkward’ appearance on Good Morning Britain… and they can’t believe the actor’s dramatic transformation

He was supposed to appear on the early morning show to discuss his latest project Night Walk.

And Mickey Rourke left viewers feeling ‘awkward’ and ‘cringed out’ following his appearance on Good Morning Britain on Monday. 

The actor, 65, who struggled to answer questions asked by hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid, baffled fans when he was asked to talk about his upcoming movie.

Puzzled as to which project they wanted to discuss, the confused actor asked: ‘What film?’

He then briefly opened up on the movie, in which he plays a Nazi loving white supremacist, as he told: ‘It was really nice to work with as it was a first time director who wasn’t scared of working with me he was excited.

‘It was a really good experience, I went out and spoke to some people about white supremacists.’

Elsewhere, in the interview, that had to be cut short as a result of the star going off on a tangent, Piers attempted to delve into the actors thoughts on returning to the limelight for his appearance in the 2008 film The Wrestler.

Trying to salvage the uneasy exchange, Piers stated: ‘We are running out of time here – what’s was it like being back at the top?’

Mickey said: ‘I never felt like I was back on top.

‘When you have been out of work for a decade then get work again I never really felt like I achieved much.’

One penned: ‘I had to leave the room when Mickey Rourke was being interviewed because it was cringing me out and now he’s trending so I guess it didn’t get much better’

One wrote: ‘Well. Sounds like Micky Rourke. Doesn’t look like him what on earth as he done #GMB.’

In Mickey’s latest movie, the star plays a member of the Aryan Brotherhood, a notorious Neo-Nazi prison gang, which is set to be released later in 2019.

In the film Rourke tries to recruit Sean Stone, who plays main character Frank, into the Aryan Brotherhood after he’s wrongfully imprisoned by corrupt police for the murder of his Arab wife.

Written and directed by Aziz Tazi the independent movie also stars veteran actors Eric Roberts and Richard Tyson. 

The movie, which wrapped filming in July 2018, was mostly shot in Morocco, North Africa, with some scenes shot in LA.

Rourke’s acting career took off in the 1970s and 80s, a highlight being his smouldering 1986 star turn opposite Kim Basinger in 9 1/2 Weeks.

After a career lull he went on to earn an Oscar nomination for playing a grappler in The Wrestler, though the Academy Award wound up going to Sean Penn for Milk.

The grizzled star’s amateur boxing career stretched from when he was 12 years old until his early 20s, during which time he racked up 27 wins and only three losses.

He has two ex-wives – model Carré Otis and actress Debra Feuer – and since 2009 has dated Russian model Anastassija Makarenko, who is over 30 years his junior.
