Will Young has featured on Gardeners’ World several times in recent weeks, which has sparked a mixed reaction from viewers. One in particular was less than impressed with the amount of coverage focused on his private garden and took to Twitter to have their say. Earlier this month, Monty Don, 66, took to the micro-blogging site to tell fans about “dramatic changes” they can expect on the show.
In view of his 239,000 followers, he wrote: “GW tonight has dramatic changes to the Mound, dramatic action to help, squashes and pumpkins to ripen, dramatic pots from Will Young and an exclusive visit to his back garden and a dramatic display of breakdancing by Patti & Nell. #oneofthesemightnotbetrue.”
In response to his post, a viewer commented: “Not being funny here. But this could be the third time we have seen Will Young’s garden.
“I feel I have been there more times than he has this year? We deserve better now.”
Monty replied: “This is his own, private garden. Previous visit was to that of his parent’s.”(sic)
Others flocked to his post to share their thoughts.
“Best telly hour of the week whatever you do,” Carole Matthews commented.
Another added: “If I don’t see Patti and Nell breakdancing I’m finished with GW forever.”
A fourth penned: “All sounds very dramatic and it’s only the first week of Autumn!”
Will has previously opened up about how gardening helped with his mental health.
The Pop Idol winner gave Joe Swift a tour at his farmhouse in Blisland, Cornwall, for the show back in 2019.
Will, 42, opened up about his battle with anxiety and how this made him get “very ill”.
The singer turned to gardening and the outdoors to help with his mental health.

He said at the time: “The process of creating something is miraculous, from a tiny seed, or a tiny cutting, you get these amazing plants.
“But you have to be patient, you have to nurture and maybe the act of nurturing something else maybe aids you to nurture yourself, it’s amazing how people talk about pills and counselling, which do all work, but gardening and nature is a brilliant healer, it’s just the best.”
He went on to say that he has had a passion for gardening from a very early age.
Meanwhile, Monty also recently reacted to viewers’ concerns that he may be leaving the show.
He tweeted: “I have worked with Gerry for the past 23 years and it has been an unremitting privilege and pleasure.”
The presenter prompted many of his fans to query if he was set to leave the programme.
“Stop tweeting like you’re about to call it a day, Monty!” One user remarked.
“You just get the feeling that an announcement is coming. More episodes of this series have been presented by Adam [Frost] and the rest of the team, but we can’t grumble. We’ve had many years of Monty and need to be grateful,” they added.
A second penned: “Sounds as if you’re leaving Monty!!!”
Clarifying this was not the case, he replied: “No, no plans to leave. Stuck with me a while longer I am afraid.”
Gardeners’ World returns tonight at 8pm on BBC Two.
