Last month, Indiana Jones 5 cast Mads Mikkelsen in a mystery role opposite Harrison Ford in the long-awaited movie. The Danish star has appeared in the James Bond, Harry Potter, Star Wars and Marvel franchises and is now ready to take on another. The 55-year-old has read the script, teased how positive he’s feeling for the storyline and how’s he’s preparing for the unknown part.

Speaking with Collider, Mads said: “I’m very, very excited about it…”

The Danish star said how he recently rewatched the first Indiana Jones movie, 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark.

He continued: “It is so well-done and so charming, and it’s such great storytelling. So yes. it’s a great honour to be part of that franchise that I grew up with…

“I’m in a lucky position where they let me read the script before. And yes, it was everything I wished it to be, so that was just great.”

Mads also shared how he has the freedom to help build his own role opposite Ford’s “straight man” archaeologist.

The 55-year-old continued: “I do think I’m invited in to create a character, I think that everybody wants that.

“That’s why they pick certain actors that they think can come up with certain things, and it will be a collaboration as it always is.

“Interesting enough, again a little like Riders of Justice, there is kind of a genre mix in Indiana Jones always.”

Mads added: “There is something that is a little larger-than-life, almost back to the 30s with a Peter Lorre kind of feel, and then you have Indiana Jones who kind of is a straight man.

“But he does produce a lot of funny and interesting things, but there are different character genres in some of those films.”

Mads is best-known for playing villains, having portrayed Le Chiffre in the Bond movie Casino Royale, Kaecilius in Doctor Strange and Hannibal Lecter in the Hannibal TV show.

While most recently he replaced Johnny Depp as Harry Potter baddie Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3, which is set for release in 2022.
