Netflix and Bridgerton actor Page has been in the upper-echelons of the betting board for the next James Bond for months. The actor became hugely popular over Christmas when the period drama debuted where the British-Zimbabwean actor played Simon Bassett, Duke of Hastings. Since then he has been tipped as the first potential Black 007 with an impressive 5/1 odds from Ladbrokes.

The betting agent has now released new odds on the 31-year-old shunning the martini and taking up the red and blue costume of Superman instead.

Ladbrokes have given Page an incredible 4/1 to replace current Superman Henry Cavill in the hero’s next movie.

The company’s Alex Apati said: “The odds suggest a huge shake-up in the world of cinema could soon be on the cards.

“Bridgerton fans are desperate for Regé-Jean Page to land the role of Bond or Superman, with the latter now looking more likely. That means Henry Cavill could soon be swapping spandex for tuxedos with a 007 move potentially on the cards.”

Cavill is in the running for Bond with a great 7/1, but he has a long way to go.

He is still being beaten by Tom Hardy and James Norton, who have 2/1 and 5/2 respectively.

The British star’s future as Superman has not been addressed by DC or Warner Bros since his last film for the series, 2017’s Justice League, directed by Joss Whedon. He has since appeared in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which was released this month.

Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman previously reported Cavill had been removed from the role, despite claims he had one film left on his contract.

This week, Richtman said Cavill is “hoping” Warner Bros will “change their mind” in the coming years so he can star in another solo Supes movie.

This report follows news that a Superman reboot is being penned by Ta-Nehisi Coates.

The writer has previously worked with Marvel on the Black Panther comic book series.

The Hollywood Reporter said Coates was working on a brand new Superman origin story involving a Black version of the icon.

Instead of being based on the traditional Clark Kent character, the report says a brand new Kryptonian will be introduced after being “inspired” by Kal-L’s work in Man of Steel.

While they reported Michael B Jordan was the inspiration behind the writing, Page has come out on top in the latest odds.

Coates said of the news of his new Superman movie being penned: “To be invited into the DC Extended Universe by Warner Bros, DC Films and Bad Robot is an honour.

“I look forward to meaningfully adding to the legacy of America’s most iconic mythic hero.”

The newcomer’s film is going to be produced by Star Wars writer and director JJ Abrams.

Abrams commented on Coates’ involvement, saying: “There is a new, powerful and moving Superman story yet to be told.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with the brilliant Mr Coates to help bring that story to the big screen, and we’re beyond thankful to the team at Warner Bros for the opportunity.”

James Bond No Time To Die is due out September 30, 2021.
