Jared Leto 'returning as Joker for Zack Snyder's Justice League'

Jared Leto is reportedly reprising his role as the Joker for Zack Snyder’s Justice League – also known as the Snyder Cut.

The actor first took on the role of Batman’s nemesis for Suicide Squad in 2016, alongside Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn.

Deadline has reported that the 48-year-old is set to return to the role for the Snyder Cut, although it’s not clear how big his part will be.

He’s joining Ben Affleck, Ray Fisher, and Amber Heard on the cast for the project, which is set to air as four parts.

Jared’s return to the role may come as a surprise to fans, considering his portrayal wasn’t entirely well-received – and it was later reported that he felt ‘alienated’ when DC tapped Joaquin Phoenix to play the character in the 2019 Todd Phillips-directed adaptation.

In 2017, Jared also said he was ‘confused’ at his non-involvement in the character’s future.

He said: ‘I’m a little confused too, but yeah, there are a couple of things happening in the DC world… I loved the Joker, he’s a great character, a really fun character to play.

‘It’s a big universe and when you play the Joker, there’s no ownership there. You have the honour of holding the baton for a little while and then passing it off.

‘But there are other films in development and I’m excited to see what comes from them’.

However, Deadline reports that Jared and Joaquin were able to ‘smooth things over’ for the actor to be able to return to the role for the upcoming film.

Earlier this year, Zack dropped a teaser for the cut, which is coming to HBO Max in 2021.

‘It’s going to be in four parts, one hour each,’ he explained, adding that there will be an option to watch one four-hour movie.

He also confirmed he won’t be using any of Joss Whedon’s footage from the original Justice League movie.

‘There would be no chance on earth that I would use a shot that was made prior, er, after I left the movie,’ he declared at San Diego Comic Con.

‘I’d destroy the movie, I would set it on fire before I would use a single frame that I did not photograph.’
