Just two years ago the final film in the third Star Wars trilogy was released, The Rise of Skywalker. While the movie brought an end to the ongoing Sequel Trilogy storyline, it left a number of things wide open to be revisited in the future. Since then, a new entry into the franchise has been announced under the direction of Wonder Woman star Patty Jenkins. Unfortunately, things have gone awry.

Jenkins was due to release Rogue Squadron – the latest in the Star Wars-adjacent films – in the coming years.

The original plan was for Jenkins to begin preproduction on Rogue Squadron by the end of the year.

Production was supposed to begin in 2022, with a tentative release date of December 23, 2023.

However, it has now been revealed the star’s “schedule and other commitments” won’t allow for the window needed. (Via The Hollywood Reporter)

Patty’s conflict has forced Rogue Squadron to be taken off the upcoming production schedule.

The “hope” is that once the star has fulfilled her previous commitments she will be able to return to the project.

It is not yet known what these scheduling conflicts are, but Jenkins is currently working on her third Wonder Woman movie, Wonder Woman 3.

Rogue Squadron was announced in 2020 with a video from Jenkins telling her fans she used her fighter pilot father as an inspiration for the film.

Jenkins added that she wanted to make the “greatest fighter pilot movie ever made”.

At the moment it is unclear whether Disney or Lucasfilm has any more Star Wars movies on the way to the big screen.

Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron would follow last year’s Wonder Woman 1984, which received a rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes with a 58 percent approval rating.

The American director is also working on a Paramount film surrounding the life of Cleopatra, starring Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot.

In the meantime, a number of Star Wars TV shows are due to hit the small screen soon.

Disney Plus subscribers will be inundated with Star Wars content over the next few months, starting with the Book of Boba Fett.

The Book of Boba Fett continues the story of the titular legendary bounty hunter, played by Temuera Morrison.

The character’s story was explored further in The Mandalorian season two, and now fans will see him come into power on Tatooine.

After that, Disney fans will be welcomed into the world of the Jedi once again in the new series Kenobi.

The upcoming TV show fills in the gaps of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s story between Star Wars Episode III and IV.

Not only is Ewan McGregor returning to play his iconic character, but he is also joined by the original Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader actor Hayden Christiansen.

The Star Wars saga is available on Disney Plus now.
