However she explained that she opted to speak about it in her Sunday Mail column because she wanted to "honour the extraordinary life" he lived and express her thanks to those who helped care for him.
She explained that her dad had passed surrounded by all his nearest and dearest as Jean said he was "bombarded with love" at the end of his life.
In the final days of his life she explained that their siblings took it in turns to hold his hand as he "slipped away".
Jean praised the nurses at Inverclyde Royal Hospital who comforted the family at the most "vulnerable and terrifying time", adding that she won't "forget their kindness and understanding".
She said her dad had "unconditional love" for his family and said he was an adventurer in his free time.
Jean shared the news of her dad's passing to her Instagram when her column came out as she simply wrote: "A tribute to my dad in todays @mailsunday".
Although she turned comments off from the post, she remained supported by her co-stars as both Laura Hamilton and Jonnie Irwin liked the snap.
Jean had gone silent on social media for almost three weeks following the tragic news.
The star had been posting from Spain prior to returning back to the UK as she was busy filming for the upcoming series of A Place In The Sun.
On February 3 Jean posed in front of the camera with a big grin on her face as she had the sun and sea behind her as she helped a couple find their home.
Days prior she was seen posing in front of a pool as she again flashed a smile towards the camera and teased: "Hard day at the office. Happy Monday."
The star was posting regularly every couple of days from the different filming locations, but she soon headed home to be by her dad's side.
