The ‘Easy On Me’ singer beats ABBA to log the fastest-selling album of the year and sets a record as the only female act to place all four albums atop the chart in her home country.
AceShowbiz –Adele‘s new album, “30”, has shot to the top of the U.K. charts, overtaking ABBA to become the fastest-selling album of 2021.
The new release picked up 261,000 first-week sales – almost 60,000 more than the Swedish pop supergroup’s comeback album, “Voyage”.
But that’s well below the opening-week sales of her last album, “25”, which rocketed to the top of the countdown with 800,000 units sold in 2015.
All four of Adele’s albums have reached number one – a record for a female act.
The singer’s new release is also this week’s biggest seller on vinyl, with 16,700 copies sold on wax, and the most-streamed album of the week.
Elsewhere in the albums chart, Ed Sheeran‘s “=” takes second place while “Voyage” is at three.
Oasis‘ live recording of their 1996 gig in Knebworth, England debuts at four.
Meanwhile, Adele has now secured another chart double in her native U.K. – her latest hit, “Easy On Me”, has scored a sixth week at the top of the singles countdown. The track is now Adele’s longest-running number one in the U.K. singles chart, outstripping her 2011 hit single “Someone Like You”.
Adele almost ended her own reign at the top of the charts – her tune “Oh My God” is the week’s highest new entry at two, and another “30” album track, “I Drink Wine”, is at four. The singer and Ed Sheeran are the only artists featured in the new top five – Ed’s “Shivers” and “Bad Habits” sit at three and five.
