Grammys 2020: Billie Eilish wins Song of the Year award
Billie Eilish made history earlier this year when she became the youngest artist to win the top four Grammys at the 2020 ceremony, and even won a fifth to boot. Then, her world drastically changed when she had to cancel her world tour after just three shows due to coronavirus. She is currently releasing new music, slowly but surely, but is there a new album to follow?
Billie Eilish has had a very different year to what she was expecting, as have we all.
After sweeping the Grammys, the Brits and every music awards ceremony going this year, things ground to a halt when Covid-19 caused Billie’s tour to be cancelled after just three shows.
This meant, like so many of us, Billie was out of work and forced to stay inside, living with her mother and father in Los Angeles, California.
Her songwriting partner is her brother, Finneas, so this made things easier for her to be creative during the unintentional downtime so many of us were presented with in 2020.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, which she has done on the same day every year for the past four years, Billie offered her past self some advice but also confirmed what many of us were hoping: more new music is on the way.
She said: “Right now I have 16 [songs]. We’ve been working. And I love them all.
“I think Finneas and I have just seriously really gotten in the groove. We do it so fast.
“There was a period of time, a month ago or something, we were just texting the label like, ‘Song done, another song done, another song done.’
“So, I’m so much better at it. I love it so much more. I actually really do enjoy it now and I do feel like I’m pretty good at it now.”
This will be music to fans’ ears, given two songs have already been released this year and gone down a storm.
Her most recent song, Therefore I Am, set social media alight with questions over who the song could be about.
In the chorus, Billie makes fun of her subject with the song’s title, Therefore I Am, implying he believes he is ‘the man.’
However, as the song progresses, Billie shows how he is faking a relationship with her, and she is not impressed.
She tells him to take her “pretty name out of your mouth,” and claims his world is an “ideal,” meaning his view of their relationship is an illusion.
Later, she specifically asks him not to speak about their so-called relationship, saying when the press “say your name, I just act confused.”
Billie then, in the bridge, laughs as she pretends she does not know who he is, asking whether he can remind her of his name.
Evidently, she is baiting this person for their treatment of her, however she does not reveal who that person is.
Before that, Billie released My Future, she explained to fans exactly what she was singing about, writing in an email announcement: “When we wrote this song, it was exactly where my head was at – hopeful, excited and a craaaazy amount of self-reflection and self-growth.
“But recently it has also taken on a lot of new meaning in the context of what’s happening in the world now… the future feels uncertain and crazy right now.
“But I think we need to be ready to put the work in, and if we do that, we should be hopeful and excited for our future.
“I have to keep reminding myself that the future is ours, and I know we want to do everything we can to make it better for everyone in the world. and for the world itself…
“It’s up to us to change things now. not only for us, but for future generations. stay hopeful.”
Despite all these new songs brewing, a new album has not been announced officially and may be some way away, depending on whether Billie decides to reinvigorate her touring hopes.
