After The Beatles, Elvis Presley is the most successful music artist of all. But the difference was that, unlike the Fab Four, The King was on his own. Fans know the star, but did they really know the man? Elvis famously said before his 1972 Madison Square Garden concert: “Well the image is one thing; a human being is another. It’s very hard to live up to an image. I’ll put it that way.”

Now Elvis’ former girlfriend Mindi Miller, who dated The King from 1975-6 has shared just how different he was in private.

Speaking with Elvis Presley expert Billy Stallings Spa Guy, the 70-year-old said: “You only saw a small percentage of who he really was on stage.

“Because he was there to entertain you. And I remember there were many things he told me, many, many things.

“And one of the things he always said was, ‘We are all teachers and we are all students.’”

Mindi continued: “That was very important to him because of him teaching me about astral projection and dream therapy and life after death and the seven hierarchies, numerology, meditating together and all those things.

“I remember something that was very important that always stuck with me and that he always said to me that he likened his audience to when he would be in a church singing as a little boy, looking in the pews of the church of all the people.

“He likened that to being his church, especially when he sang his gospel songs.”

The King’s ex shared how Elvis really wanted his fans to know that part of him, but couldn’t go into it heavily because not everybody shared his spiritual beliefs.

Mindi added: “But they believed in Elvis Presley the entertainer.”

She remembered The King saying to her: “I want my fans to know who I am and what I stand for and what I believe in and why I believe this way.

“Y’know honey, I can only show a very small percentage of that to them on stage because the rest of the time it’s singing my songs, entertaining them, but they’ll never know who I am.’”

She said: “So yes, he was a completely different person privately, but there was a large part of him to a certain percentage that you could see who he was on stage.”

Mindi added: “You could get that glimmer of him, which his fans still have. But they don’t know three-quarters of who he is.”

At the end of the three-part interview, Elvis’ ex said she wanted to share his spiritual side as that to him was truly his essence and who he truly was.

According to his daughter Lisa Marie Presley, upstairs at Graceland in The King’s bedroom are piles of spiritual books and Bibles.

While the book he was reading as he died was A Scientific Search For The Face of Jesus by Frank Adams.
