Luke Bryan is one of the most acclaimed country music singers of our time, and is widely known for hits like “Play It Again” and “One Margarita.” He has also lent his talents to musical competition shows The Voice and American Idol. Bryan’s hard work has definitely paid off, as he has won more than 40 music awards (via Universal Music Group Nashville)! On April 18, 2021, he won Entertainer of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards, according to People.
As was the case for most artists in 2020, the coronavirus pandemic upended the music industry. However, Bryan said his family got him through some dark moments. “I think at the core of it all, the fact that I’ve been home a little more and I could spend quality time with my family has certainly gotten me through all of the challenges of this year,” he told People.
But, on April 12, 2021, Bryan announced on Twitter that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and would have to sit out as judge on American Idol. Thankfully, he is now on the mend. Keep reading for more details about his recovery.
A special person helped Luke Bryan recover from COVID-19
Luke Bryan credits his wife Caroline for helping him get through COVID-19, telling People he was “blessed” to be on the “other side” of his diagnosis. “Certainly the key to feeling better for having COVID was, you know, I was very fortunate to not have a long, long set of symptoms and stuff. … It was still quite challenging for a couple of days, but thank God for just, certainly, health,” Bryan added. “There were times when Caroline was nursing me back to health, so I was certainly amazed to move through that.”
The 44-year-old admitted that quarantine was difficult, especially because he was not able to hug his children. He told Entertainment Tonight, “I put myself in a part of the house and stayed away from my boys,” he said. “I really didn’t want the boys to miss any school so [one of the hardest things was] not being able to hug all my children.”
Although missing American Idol was “tough” for Bryan, he was grateful that former judge Paula Abdul filled in for him. “I was really honored and very amazed that Paula stepped in for me,” he told the outlet. And we are thrilled to hear he’s doing well!
