K-pop stars Jung Joon Young and Choi Jong Hong jailed for gang rape charges

K-pop stars Jung Joon Young and Choi Jong Hong have been jailed on gang rape charges.

The disgraced pair were handed prison sentences after they were convicted of charges of aggravated rape.

During parties in Hongcheon in January 2016 and Daegu in March 2016 they raped women who were "drunk and unable to resist", a court heard.

Thirty-year-old Jung was also charged with filming the sexual assault and was found guilty of sharing the footage with pals in group chats.

Jung has been sentenced to six years in prison, while 29-year-old Choi has been sentenced to five years.

Along with their jail time, both men have also been sentenced to do 80 hours in a sexual violence rehabilitation programme.

The pair have also been banned from employment at children and youth facilities for five years.

Jung, who starred in 2 Days & 1 Night, admitted to the charges of secretly filming and distributing sex videos, but heavily denied the charge of rape.

F.T. Island star Choi, who is the leader of the rock band, denied all criminal charges against him, but Judge Kang Seong-soo found both men guilty.

The judge told the Seoul Central District Court that the pair had raped women "who were drunk and unable to resist, filmed them nude and having sex, then spread it on a group chat".

The judge told the court: "We can’t imagine the pain the victims might have felt who found out later.

"Jung argued that his sexual act was done with mutual agreement, while Choi flatly denied having sex with the victims.

"But Jung confessed he had sex (with the women) together with Choi, and his confession was also proved by their KakaoTalk chats.

"In this sense, it can be recognised that they jointly raped drunk women."

The court said: "Choi did not feel remorse after mass-raping drunken victims."

In Jung's final testimony, he told the court: "I deeply regret my foolishness and I feel great remorse. From now on, I shall only… live in remorse."

Both men burst into tears as they were sent down to prison, along with three other men who were given sentences today for their parts in the sexual assaults including the older brother of singer Yuri.

A fifth defendant was sentenced to eight months in prison suspended.
