Lisa Marie Presley love life: Inside Elvis’ daughter’s short marriage to Michael Jackson

Lisa Marie Presley is the only child of the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. She inherited his huge fortune and has since become a singer in her own right. But the performer is better known for her various relationships, including some high profile marriages to the likes of Michael Jackson and Nicolas Cage.

Who is Lisa Marie Presley?

Lisa Marie Presley was born on February 1, 1968, exactly nine months after her parents were married in Las Vegas.

Presley was born in Tennessee, where her father is from, but she soon lived with her mother after her parents divorced in October 1973.

Her father died only four years later, in August 1977, at which point Lisa Marie became the joint heir to his estate along with Elvis’ father Vernon and his grandmother, Minnie Mae.

However, Vernon passed away in 1979, and Minnie Mae in 1980, meaning Lisa Marie was the sole heir and inherited his home, Graceland, when she turned 25 in 1993.

Ahead of Lisa Marie’s inheriting the estate, her mother and executors of the estate had grown the estate to $100million (£76.9million,) however she sold 85 per cent of it in 2004.

One of Lisa Marie’s early forays into the music business came in 1997, when she made a video of Don’t Cry Daddy, as adult with her father, which was played at a tribute concert to her father on the 20th anniversary of his death.

Her first album in 2003, called To Whom It May Concern, reached Number Five in the Billboard Charts, and helped revive her chances in making music after she wrote co-wrote the entire record.

Her second album was released in 2005, which got to Number Nine on the US charts, while her third album, released in 2012, was produced by Oscar and Grammy winner T Bone Burnett.

However, outside of her music work, she is likely best known, as she has had some high profile relationships and made some important appearances.

Her first husband was Danny Keough, a Chicago-born musician, with whom Lisa Marie had two children, Danielle Riley Keough and Benjamin Storm Keough.

The older of her children is known as Riley Keough and is an actress who has appeared in a number of films from director Steven Soderbergh, such as Magic Mike and Logan Lucky.

Just 20 days after their divorce in May 1994, Lisa Marie married singer Michael Jackson, who she had first met in 1975 when she was just seven years old.

According to a friend of hers, Lisa Marie’s “adult” friendship with Jackson began in 1992, but it was also reported Jackson became strongly dependent on his wife after accusations of child molestation went public.

Lisa Marie spoke out at the time about the allegations, saying “I believed he didn’t do anything wrong, and that he was wrongly accused, and yes, I started falling for him.

“I wanted to save him, I felt that I could do it.”

She sought a divorce in January 1996, after she had reportedly helped him to go to rehabilitation to recover from faltering health and addiction to drugs, as discussed in Randy J Taraborrelli’s book, The Magic and the Madness.

Following their divorce, Lisa Marie was engaged to singer-songwriter John Oszajca, however she ended up marrying actor Nicolas Cage in August 2002, but Cage filed for divorce just three months later, for it to be finalised on in 2004.

Lisa Marie’s final marriage was to Michael Lockwood, her guitarist, with her first husband acting as best man at their wedding in Japan.

Presley had twin girls with Lockwood, Harper and Finley, but Presley filed for divorce from Lockwood in 2016, later claiming her husband had images and videos of child pornography on his personal computer.

In spousal support documents, Presley wrote: “When I discovered the photos on [Lockwood’s] computer, and viewed the videos, I was shocked and horrified and sick to my stomach,” she wrote.

“I had no idea that [he] had taken those photos. I will refrain from describing the photographs in detail out of respect for the privacy of my family.”

She also noted the Beverly Hills Police Department executed a search warrant, and removed more than 80 of his devices, though as of 2017 these had not been analysed or released.

Outside of her relationships, Lisa Marie was a Scientologist since she was brought into the church by her mother in 1977, but officially defected from the church in 2016.

Lisa Marie also has continued to run Graceland and the property in it as a tourist attraction, opening an exhibit at Graceland called ‘Elvis… Through His Daughter’s Eyes.’
