BBC Breakfast host Ben Thompson is leaving the channel after working for the BBC for ten years.
Ben began his career with the BBC at Radio Wales in Cardiff whilst studying at university and went on to various reporting roles at the BBC before landing the presenter role alongside his pal Naga Munchetty.
He began presenting the show in 2016 and the role has seen him interview everyone from celebrities to world leaders.
Ben told Twitter about his decision to depart the beloved early morning show: "I’m hanging up my @BBCBreakfast hard hat and hi-vis in the New Year, so here’s a little thread of some of my ten years on the road, getting access to some of the most interesting and amazing businesses, and taking you with us."
He followed his words with various pictures wearing high visibility clothing and protective equipment during his time reporting for the BBC.
His fellow BBC host Naga shared his goodbye post and she wrote: “I will miss you immensely on-air, but you’ll always be my partner in mischief.”
Fans also commented on his departure with well wishes and good luck messages: “You will be missed by many viewers.”
Another keen fan wrote: “You could have left it until after Christmas, you are always so enthusiastic and knowledgeable.”
“It improves the programme immensely when you appear. You, Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty are the dream team,” said another viewer.
Naga and co-host Charlie have recently come under fire for what viewers think was an attempt to trip up a scientist who was speaking about Covid figures.
Professor Andrew Hayward appeared on the morning show to discuss ways that the Omicron variant can be slowed down whilst booster jabs are rolled out, yet the presenters received backlash online from viewers.
Charlie started the interview by saying: “It does get personal to a certain point, doesn’t it? A lot of people are going to be scratching their heads […] where are we going from here?”
Online comments accused the presenting pair of trying to catch out the scientist as recent interviews seem to grill the experts on the matter.
