One Direction split in 2016, much to the dismay of the band’s millions of fans. Over the six years they were around One Direction managed to release incredible albums, songs, and indeed music videos. Unfortunately, it all came crashing down in 2015.
In 2015 Zayn Malik announced he was leaving the band.
While this didn’t destroy the band implicitly, it did eventually lead to the end of One Direction.
A year later, all was said and done, prompting the rest of the band to begin releasing their own solo music.
Since then, fans have been enjoying the solo music, but have also been looking out for any news pertaining to any kind of reunion.
And hope could be just around the corner, as Liam Payne recently appeared on Good Morning America.
During his chat with the show’s hosts he revealed he had received a number of best wishes for his birthday from the rest of the band.
Now, in a recent TikTok live, Payne went on to announce he and the rest of One Direction actually have a group chat that is still active today.
This, obviously, sent fans into complete meltdown, as they began suggesting it could be the beginning of the band’s return to glory.
One fan tweeted: “Liam just said there’s a One Direction group chat!!!!! I’M OKAY.” (sic)
Another joked: “Liam Payne is the reason this fandom doesn’t die from starving. That man is a LEGEND.”
Things looked a little bleak earlier this year as Niall Horan was featured in GQ Magazine discussing his “feud” with Zayn Malik.
During the chat he explained he “no longer” speaks to the former 1D star.

He went on: “As long as I’ve known him, Zayn’s been the hardest man to stay in touch with.
“Then we had a falling out a few years ago. And, to be honest, that’s just the dynamic.
“You have people you are friends with and people you are not.”
Despite this, Horan did explain he still regularly speaks to his other former band mates.
Malik left the band in 2015, citing a number of reasons for his exit.
Shortly after the announcement Malik released a statement about his departure.
He posted online: “I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight.
“I know I have four friends for life in Louis, Liam, Harry and Niall.”
