The cunning use of Paul Hollywood’s pictures to lure women looking for love has “exploded” ahead of the Great British Bake Off return.

This is according to an anti-scam group who say con artists thrive off the celeb chef being on our screens.

Silver fox Paul, 55, warned about the catfishes last July – but the problem has since escalated.

Ruth Grover, who runs ScamHaters United on Facebook, told the Daily Star: “We have seen him used since around 2016 but Paul Hollywood scams really has exploded in the past 12 months.

“Although most people in the UK know Paul, scams are happening in every country and many see him as just a good looking man with lovely blue eyes.”

Last July, Paul told his 472,000 Instagram followers: “Morning I’m still receiving messages saying there are scammers pretending to be me contacting you, look for the blue tick highlighted, also look at the follower number!

“I don’t have a private account. Please be careful, watch the GBBO, the Great British Bake Off scammers too, look for blue tick ALWAYS!.”

Despite his warning, women are still being catfished ahead of the latest series of the show which airs next week.

And Ruth has urged women open to finding their dream man online to be cautious.

She said: “Scammers love to use Paul because of the available video on him.

“He is used a lot by someone pretending to be an oil rigger.

“Women need to watch out on dating sites – Tinder and Plenty of Fish along with Facebook dating sees plenty of Paul Hollywood scams.

“His use is still very current.”

The real Paul Hollywood will feature in the new series of the Channel 4 baking show on Tuesday, September 21, alongside fellow judge Prue Leith and hosts Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding.
