After the mess that was 2020, a fresh start and a new year have never been more welcome than when January 1, 2021 finally arrived. It’s been an interesting beginning, to say the least, but one thing is for sure: We’re going to get a lot of new music this year to help us make sense of the world around us, including our love lives. Times might be tough, but people are constantly falling in and out of love… and singing about their feelings in love songs. Sure, we might not get two brand new Taylor Swift albums this year (or will we?) but there’s still plenty out there to listen to already that will breathe new life into our most romantic playlists.
Here are the best love songs of 2021 so far, perfect for listening to when you’re in your feelings.
“Driver’s License” by Olivia Rodrigo
If you haven’t been listening to this overnight hit on repeat, you’re lying. Even if you got your driver’s license a long time ago, you can’t help but feel what Olivia feels when she’s singing about losing the love of her life to an older, less insecure girl.
“Anyone” by Justin Bieber
Justin Bieber’s new song, “Anyone,” arrived just as 2021 did, and it ended up being a super cute love song about only loving the person you’re with forever, even if one day they decide to leave you (and the video is kinda adorable, too).
“Right Where You Left Me” by Taylor Swift
Technically, this is an Evermore bonus track, but it wasn’t until early 2021 that it was made available to stream. In “Right Where You Left Me,” Swift sings about being stuck in the past after a breakup. We’ve all been there, girl.
“Talk About Love” by Zara Larsson
Love stories can happen when you’re just trying to date casually, and that’s what this one is about. Instead of making a commitment, why not just stay in the moment instead?
“Vibez” by Zayn
The new year brought us a brand new album from Zayn, Nobody is Listening, and “Vibez” is the lead single. It’s impossible not to have Gigi Hadid in mind when Zayn is singing about the woman he’s got vibes for.
“Line By Line” by Maren Morris & JP Saxe
Knowing that Maren Morris has brought us songs like “The Bones” in the past, it’s no surprise that she had something like “Line By Line” up her sleeve about a love story that seems too big to fit in a song. “I’ll be writing about you the rest of my life/ Line by line,” the song ends.
