A reminder that these Love Island 2005 cast promo shots are brilliant

These promo pictures of the Love Island 2005 celebrity cast are brilliant.

With Love Island well underway helping more supple singletons find love in the sun, it’s a good time to look back to the original Love Island where it all began.

With recent stars such as Dani Dyer, Kem Cetinay and Malin Andersson becoming household names, it’s easy to forget that Love Island started out as a celebrity show.

It saw 90s and 00s stars such as Paul Danan, Calum Best, Jayne Middlemiss, Abi Titmuss and Fran Cosgrave jet off to Fiji with the hope of falling in love with another famous face.

With the action moving to Spain and the line-up being changed to unknowns (or should that be relative unknowns), Love Island has changed a whole lot over the last 14 years.

And these cheesy promo shots prove it.

When did Love Island start?

Love Island started all the way back in 2005, and was hosted by Patrick Kielty and Kelly Brook. It ran for five weeks.

It was then followed by another series in 2006, with Fearne Cotton taking over from Kelly, before being axed.

Who was in the line-up?

The line-up for the first ever series were given some incredible promo shots to go with it.

Instead of the slick glamour shots we’ve been used to since 2015, the celebs got rather naff, tropical themed ones featuring palm trees, fake beaches and sarongs. So Noughties.

Take a look at them below.

Calum Best

Fran Cosgrave

Jayne Middlemiss

Liz McClarnon

Michael Greco

Du’aine Ladejo

Lady Isabella Hervey

Judi Shekoni

Rebecca Loos

Who won the first ever series?

The 2005 series was won by TV presenter Jayne and nightclub owner Fran with viewers voting for one boy and one girl to become champs.

Jayne previously had her eye on footballer Lee Sharpe, but was left heartbroken when his head was turned by model Abi Titmuss.

Love Island airs tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
