Agent Carter’s Enver Gjokaj reveals he almost played his Avengers character in Agents of SHIELD – The Sun

AGENT Carter's Enver Gjokaj has revealed he almost played his Avengers character in Agents of SHIELD.

The 40-year-old actor delighted Marvel fans by showing up as his Agent Carter character Daniel Sousa in the seventh and final season.

However in a new interview, Enver has revealed he almost appeared in the show as someone else, having played a cop in the 2012 Avengers movie.

Discussing the moment he got the call from Agents of SHIELD bosses about returning as Sousa, Enver told TVLine: "It was very unexpected, there had been talk, for years, from [Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, and Maurissa Tancharoen].

"There was actually almost a bit of a 'false alarm' where this may have happened a while ago.

"There'd been talk of trying to get my appearance from The Avengers, as that cop.

"There was talk of tying in my cop that appeared in The Avengers, but nothing was ever official."

With this in mind, Enver said he was "thrilled" to be asked to come back as Sousa, who was a main character in the Agent Carter series which ran for two seasons until 2016.

While Enver has returned to the Marvel Universe, his Agent Carter co-star Hayley Atwell, who played Peggy Carter doesn't plan to do the same.

The 38-year-old actress played the agent in a number of Marvel films as well as in the short-lived spin-off series.

After Agents of SHIELD's final season opened with the team going back in time to Peggy's era, many fans have been hoping the character will make one final appearance.

But after a fan commented on her Instagram that they hoped to see her in Agents of SHIELD soon, she shot down rumours once and for all with a simple "No" before adding a peace hand emoji.

While Hayley won't return to play Peggy in person, she is lending her voice to the character for animated series Marvel's What If… on Disney+.
