Connie Beauchamp star Amanda Mealing 'sad' as Holby City is cancelled

Amanda Mealing has tweeted her reaction to the news that Holby City will be going off air after twenty three years on screen.

A statement from the BBC said: ‘We are incredibly proud of Holby City but it’s with great sadness that we are announcing that after 23 years, the show will end on screen in March of next year.’

Amanda’s character Connie Beauchamp arrived at Holby City Hospital in 2004.

Connie slept with Ric Griffin (Hugh Quarshie) on her first day, was involved in a euthanasia storyline and after leaving the show, Amanda reprised her role as Connie in 2014 and made her arrival to the Emergency Department in Casualty.

After playing Connie for seven years in Casualty, back in March it was announced that Amanda would be taking a break from the show and in April, her final scenes aired.

Tweeting her reaction, Amanda wrote:

‘Very sad news. @bbcholbycity the ‘birthplace’ of Connie Beauchamp, is to close its doors once and for all. Very sad.’

The news that Holby City would be going off air only broke an hour ago, but already fans expressed how gutted they are and have even started a petition to save the show from going off screen.
