Recent Coronation Street episodes have seen Summer Spellman (played by Harriet Bibby), her boyfriend Aaron Sandford (James Craven), pal Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) and her boyfriend Jacob Hay (Jack James Ryan). Their set-up has been going well, and the trio are the only people who know that Summer is pregnant and planning to give her baby away. However, in her vulnerable condition, Jacob has been concerned about Summer and helping out where he can. Viewers of the ITV soap think they have spotted a spark between their pair though. Could they both betray their friends and partners by having an affair?
Thursday’s episode saw Summer struggling with morning sickness as she was getting ready for work.
“I feel sick again!” She admitted, seeming stressed out.
“Again?” Aaron asked. “How long have you been feeling this bad?”
“Not that long,” the youngster replied, but a concerned Aaron suggested she stay at home.
“God, you look awful, you can’t go in like this,” he told her.
“Well, I have to!” Summer complained, but her co-worker Jacob made her a generous offer.
“Look, I’m leaving now, shall I make a start on the work that Carla’s (Alison King) left you?”
Summer immediately took Jacob up on his offer, replying: “Oh would you mind? That’d be amazing.”
As Aaron added: “Thanks, mate,” Amy was more uncertain.
She stated: “Look, Jacob, I know you’re just trying to help, but you don’t want to get in any trouble…”
“I won’t!” Jacob insisted, adding to Summer: “Just get in when you can, yeah?”
It turns out Amy was correct though, and Carla wasn’t pleased Summer had relinquished her tasks to Jacob.
“Why is Jacob messing with our filing system?” she asked. “He’s sales, not admin.”
“Well, I wasn’t feeling too great and he offered to cover for me,” Summer explained.
“I decide what’s in your job description, don’t I?” Carla fumed.
As Summer apologised, her boss wanted the pair: “You’re both on a warning.”
Later, Summer explained once again to Carla she hadn’t wanted to let her down.
“I appreciate it must be really hard managing diabetes, so consider yourself unwarned,” Carla eventually remarked.
Worrying about Jacob, Summer quickly asked: “Both of us?”
“Yes, both of you!” Carla replied. “But if there’s a problem, come and talk to me alright?
“Don’t work so hard that you make yourself poorly.”
Jacob then approached Summer and asked: “Are you okay? Is the boss still mad?”
“She’s okay, she rescinded our warnings,” Summer informed him.
“Oh, well that’s big of her,” Jacob laughed. “You need a hand with anything?”
“No thanks, I wanna prove to Carla that I can do my job on my own,” Summer commented.
Jacob appeared concerned and asked: “Just take it easy yeah?” Lifting his finger to her, Summer “pinky promised” not to overdo it.
Viewers seemed to think the two might be heading towards an affair, though.
