Corrie spoilers: Johnny tragic relapse, Leanne suicide fears and exit twist

Coronation Street spoilers have revealed 2021 is set to begin with a bang, with drama galore unfolding on the cobbles.

To kick things off, Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) leaves her teenage son Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) concerned for her health, when she passes out after taking too many pills.

On top of that, Arthur Medwin (Paul Copley) shocks Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) with an unexpected invitation, while Gary Windass (Mikey North) is forced to face the music.

Elsewhere, Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell) makes a discovery about Grace Vickers' (Kate Spencer) unborn child – leaving Aggie (Lorna Laidlaw) fearing the worst.

And, after weeks of hard work to stop Ray Crosby's (Mark Frost) plans for demolition, the residents are devastated to learn the planning committee has decided to side with the sleazy businessman.

Letters are pushed through everyone's front door, ordering residents to leave their homes in the next two weeks before demolition begins.

Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) tries desperately to rally against Ray, climbing aboard a float to shout about his disgusting behaviour.

When her efforts go pear-shaped, Abi realises she needs someone with serious dirt on Ray to help save the street.

Faye Windass (Ellie Leach) is conflicted, trying to build up the nerve to expose Ray's assault and sexual harassment.

Is it too late to save the street, or could Abi and Faye sweep in to save the day?

Meanwhile, Gary is resigned to a police cell, as he slowly comes to terms with the fact he might not escape from the law's clutches.

Kelly Neelan (Millie Gibson) realises Gary could have a more sinister part to play in her father's disappearance and turns to Simon for emotional support.

With the two teens facing heartbreak at home, they strike up an unexpected relationship.

Simon is struggling to witness his mum Leanne's decline, as her grief following the death of little Ollie becomes too much to handle.

Leanne pretended she was travelling to France, when in reality she spent recent weeks alone in the flat wallowing in her despair.

When Simon returns home and finds her lying passed out next to a jar of sleeping pills, he assumes the worst and calls an ambulance.

When she wakes up, Leanne assures him she simply took one pill too many and has no intentions to take her own life – however, the incident makes it clear she needs more support.

Simon cancels his date with Kelly and devotes himself to looking after his mum, helping her through her grief.

Elsewhere, Johnny Connor's (Richard Hawley) eyesight starts to fail, leaving Jenny (Sally Ann Matthews) terrified ahead of the upcoming trial.

She begs Imran Habeeb (Charlie de Melo) to try and get the court date pushed ahead, but the concerned lawyer admits it isn't likely to happen.

When a nurse confirms Johnny has suffered an MS relapse, Jenny is stricken, and they plead their case with the judge.

Has Imran argued enough for Johnny to receive a more lenient sentence?

Meanwhile, Michael is shocked to see Grace return to Weatherfield, insisting he is the father of her child.

After taking a paternity test, Michael learns he is indeed the baby's dad and vows to stay by Grace's side.

Aggie is horrified and begs her son to file for sole custody, pointing to Grace's criminal history.

Can Grace and Aggie find common ground, or could the new baby tear the Bailey family apart?

At the same time, Evelyn sees Arthur approach her with flowers and assumes they're a romantic gesture – only to learn they are for his late wife.

When she apologises, Evelyn is shocked to receive an invitation to move to Canada, with Arthur begging her to run away with him.

Will Evelyn accept, or is it too much, too soon?

Meanwhile, Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) is stricken to learn Evelyn is toying with the idea of moving, as he faces life without her.

When Alina Pop (Ruxandra Porojnicu) mentions she has nowhere to live, he suddenly invites her to move in with him – but what will Fizz Brown (Jenny McAlpine) think?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8pm on ITV.
