Dapper Laughs exposes real reason he proposed to model girlfriend on Big Brother

Dapper Laughs, aka Daniel O’Reilly, has opened up about the real reason why he proposed to his girlfriend Shelley Broadhurst in front of millions of people during a live show of Celebrity Big Brother.

The controversial comedian, 34, entered the famous house alongside a host of showbiz stars in 2018 in a bid to ditch his bad lad persona and to show viewers the "real Dan".

Daniel got down on one knee straight after he was evicted from the famous house, as he sat on the sofa opposite shocked presenter Emma Willis.

Daniel’s proposal left Shelley, 28, in tears as the social media star had previously told her that he was not interested in getting married.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star Online about his shock proposal, Daniel said: "I was worried about how I was coming across on the show.

"I was petrified of coming out and losing Shelly. She’d stood by me when I lost everything, my career and my father.

"In the house I was constantly thinking if I’d said or done something wrong, and I was praying she’d be there for me when I came out and she was."

Daniel made a baby-pink handmade ring inside the Big Brother house with the help of Pony hitmaker Ginuwine and RuPaul's Drag Race star Courtney Act.

The former ITV2 star later popped the question to a gobsmacked Shelley.

Speaking about his time on Celebrity Big Brother, Daniel said: "I had turned it down before but it was Year of the Women theme and I just wanted to show people the real me.

"I was terrified that I was going to do something wrong in the house, but it was great.

"I hope Big Brother comes back. It's where celebrities go for another chance."

"I decided about the proposal in the house and Shelly was shocked as i’d previously said I wasn’t interested in getting married."

As well as taking on a main role in West End show Time, Daniel’s year is set to get busier as he and Shelly will finally tie the knot in June.

"I am so glad to be back and accepted to do something what I have always wanted to do.

"I wouldn’t mind doing some more reality TV but i’m very fragile so it couldn’t be psychological."
