EastEnders spoilers: Ben Mitchell betrays Phil Mitchell in unforgivable attack twist?

Ben (played by Max Bowden) has been struggling in light of the third anniversary of his late lover Paul Coker (Jonny Labey) with the EastEnders bad boy seen turning to the bottle to drown his sorrows and picking fights.

The grief stricken Walford youngster had a turning point in last night’s instalment of the BBC soap when father Phil (Steve McFadden) offered his son some comfort in his hour of need, but the moment was quickly quashed.

Phil told Ben his former lover Shirley Carter (Linda Henry) was going to be joining the family business and taking on some of his son’s duties, leaving the young gangster crushed as he thought he’d reached a turning point with his father.

However, Phil failed to inform Ben he had cut him out his will and next week’s scenes will see the young troubled character learn the truth as his father’s wife Sharon Mitchell (Letitia Dean) inadvertently breaks the news.

Having not caused enough of a ruckus, Sharon will go on to tell Ben his father’s employee and Louise Mitchell’s (Tilly Keeper) fiancé Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) has taken his place in Phil’s will.

As the ramifications of Sharon’s bombshell ripple in Ben’s mind, later scenes will see Phil left fighting for his life as it seems someone wants him dead.

Ben is just one of three Walford residents in the picture to assault the iconic gangster, with Keanu and Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) also in the running after clashing with Phil before the brutal attack.

Although it’s not yet been revealed whether Phil will make it through the ordeal or who is the unidentified vigilante, Ben will have another chance to bring his father to his knees.

Upcoming scenes will see Phil ask Ben to help out at the E20 club in order to allow Sharon to cut down her hours as she is expecting his child, or so he believes.

With Sharon still locked in a dilemma over whether Phil or toy-boy lover Keanu is the father of her unborn child, Ben will reluctantly agree to help out at the club.

Ben’s mind is changed however when he stumbles across some paperwork which leaves him jumping for joy, possibly taking the upper hand over his father.

The troubled character will tell Phil he is happy to help out long-term and is soon calling cousin and mother of his daughter Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold) to celebrate his discovery with him.

Has Ben seen an opportunity to sweep in and take the business from his father, giving him a motive to attack his father to get his hands on the Mitchell empire?

Or could he have possibly discovered Mel Owen (Tamzin Outhwaite) may be preparing to sell her shares as the ruthless businesswoman will be leaving the Square later this year?

Will Phil find himself in business with his son who will likely cause havoc as he sits as an equal partner meaning Ben will have a say in what goes on with the club?

Lisa Fowler is coming back

Ben may not be the only problematic person on Phil’s hands in the coming weeks as a resident who tried to claim his life once before will be making a shock return to the Square.

Louise’s mother Lisa Fowler (Lucy Benjamin) will be reuniting with her daughter and life-long friend Mel after making a brief appearance two years ago.

Last time viewers saw Lisa, she was being attended to by medical professionals after kidnapping her daughter and assaulting Phil.

“Lisa Fowler is coming back to Albert Square! With Louise expecting her first child, she’ll want to be close by,” a post from the soap’s official Twitter page read following the announcement of Lisa’s return.

“How will Phil feel about that?! #EastEnders,” so could Lisa bring more trouble to her former lover’s door when he needs it least?

EastEnders continues tonight at 7.30pm on BBC One.
