EastEnders star Danielle Harold has been speaking about the arrival of her on-screen mum, Patsy Kensit.
Danielle’s character, Lola Pearce, was recently diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour.
Following the devastating news, Lola has been determined to make the most of every single day she has left.
She’s been spending a lot of time with her friends and family and is currently in the middle of planning her wedding to Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick).
While we know a great deal about Lola and her life in Walford with her Pops, Billy (Perry Fenwick), one thing we have never really learnt about is her life before she was put into care, and why her mum made the decision to stop looking after her.
‘Having spent a lifetime apart, Emma becomes desperate to make up for lost time, but her secret sadness and guilt are never far from the surface,’ Producer Chris Clenshaw recently told us.
‘The burden of losing her daughter has never left her, but can she find the courage to tell her shocking truth and reconnect with Lola, or will it come too little, too late?’
Speaking on ITV’s Lorraine, Danielle Harold reflected on what it was like meeting Patsy Kensit for the first time, and admitted: ‘She looks more like my mum than my real mum actually!
‘I love her! I love her so much. I couldn’t have asked for someone better to play my mum, I really couldn’t. So it’s just great, we’ve had some really good scenes together, it’s been brilliant.’
Lola’s brain tumour storyline will eventually lead to Danielle’s exit from the show so during the interview, she also spoke about what it’s been like to play this iconic character for almost 14 years.
‘She becomes a little part of you. I’ll be so sad saying goodbye to her. It was really important to just keep yourself – this is what I heard from the girls [while doing research], it can be portrayed in a very grim way but it’s not always that.
‘Until I started the storyline I didn’t realise how many people have this and how underfunded the charities are.’
Just recently, Patsy posted a sweet photo of herself and Danielle on the EastEnders set.
She wrote: ‘Me and my baby girl @danielle_harold end of a long day shooting’, while Danielle responded and said: ‘Love you mum’.
