A pupil was caught with a blunt butterfly knife on them in tonight’s episode of Educating Greater Manchester.
Year 7 student Lewis sparked an investigation at Harrop Fold School in Little Hulton, Salford. when headteacher Mr Povey was alerted by a member of the public that they’d seen a schoolboy in possession of a blade.
After spending all day going through and inspecting the children’s bags, Lewis confessed that he had on him an item that could be deemed ‘not allowed’.
Lewis was whisked off to Mr Povey’s office, where he was grilled on why he had brought the object onto the premises.
‘I’m surprised you brought this in,’ Mr Povey said. ‘Did you not think about any of these things when you brought it in?’
‘It was in the back of my head, but…,’ Lewis replied.
Lewis later sobbed as he confessed to feeling guilty over the whole ordeal.
‘I put everyone through so much trouble,’ he told the camera.
‘I know I shouldn’t have done it and I feel bad for all the people who got scared and that you’ve been looking for it.’
‘I don’t think I need to get in touch with the police or anything like that, would you agree?’ Mr Povey asked.
Lewis’s dad was later brought in to discuss the incident at hand, and Lewis agreed to make an anti-knife crime video for his YouTube followers.
He later showed Mr Povey the video, which saw him warn against knife crime.
Educating Greater Manchester continues on Tuesday at 9.15pm on Channel 4.
