Emmerdale’s pregnant Amelia Spencer plays ‘very big part’ in 50th anniversary episodes

Emmerdale bosses have started dropping some major hints about what viewers can expect when the soap turns 50 later this year.

The Yorkshire-based hit show will celebrate its anniversary this October, but sadly, it won't be an entirely joyous occasion for the characters, as the village will be hit by a gigantic story.

Speaking to OK!, the ITV soap's executive producer Jane Hudson also revealed some of the storylines which will be affected by the drama, promising that the Dales will "never be the same again".

She told us: "We've got things that are going to make you laugh, make you cry, make you surprised, and stunts that are going to rock your world. It's the week that's going to deliver the most epic of stunts."

Jane added: "It's not just a storm that affects one small group it affects the entire village, so I think it will feel different."

And keen Emmerdale fans will also know from their calendars that pregnant Amelia's baby could be due around the 50th anniversary.

Jane told OK!: "Amelia is due soon. Whether or not she has the baby in the 50th celebration month, I’m obviously not going to tell you.

"But Amelia does play a very big part in the storm and when she needs to be found because she's stuck on her own. So she does play a very big part. You'll just have to wait and see."

And as if that isn't enough drama, there are some big characters making a return to the Dales – Diane [Sugden], Aaron [Dingle] and Tracy [Metcalfe] will all be reappearing on a temporary basis.

The show's boss Kate Brooks teased: "They'll be at the heart of some really big stories that will impact their lives, and not just their lives, the lives of the characters they leave behind. So it's all it's all really exciting, and it's all brilliant!"

The explosive episodes will see a huge storm hitting the village and Jane added: "It's safe to say that the village won't be the same after this, and it will never be the same again, because the impact this storm has on people's lives.

"It’s just massive. In terms of filming, it's quite unprecedented in terms of what we're doing and the scale of what we're doing."

The official date for the 50th anniversary episodes have not been revealed, but the soap celebrates its big birthday on Sunday 16 October.

Emmerdale airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, at 8pm on ITV.
