Charley Webb spent 19 years on Emmerdale in her role as Debbie Dingle, but at the start of this year, she confirmed that she wouldn’t be making a return to the soap.
Since then, fans of the actress have been left wondering what she’d be up to next and over the past few months she’s been teasing a return to TV, telling her followers on Instagram: “When the right thing comes to me, I'll be back.”
And now it seems that the former Emmerdale star is close to making her return to TV, as she looks totally transformed in her new role.
Charley was recently spotted filming in Leeds for a new ITV drama about the Yorkshire Ripper.
Here’s everything we know about her new role, and what she’s been up to since leaving Emmerdale.
Charley Webb’s transformation for Yorkshire Ripper drama
Emmerdale fans were surprised to see Charley looking completely different as she began filming for her first new role.
The Debbie Dingle actress’s long golden, wavy locks and casual clothing have disappeared as she looks almost unrecognisable in her role as a police officer.
When she was spotted filming in Leeds, Charley could be seen dressed in a smart police uniform and her now dark brown hair had been styled in a sleek bun.
Why did Charley Webb leave Emmerdale?
Charley confirmed at the start of this year that she’d left Emmerdale for good.
It was previously reported that she had left the soap after her husband Matthew Wolfenden was allegedly involved in a row on set.
A source told The Sun: "Matthew being caught up in the row on set fuelled her decision to step away.”
But the actress later took to her social media to address her departure from the soap herself.
She wrote on her Instagram story: "This is always my most asked question but I’ve never answered it before because I’ve never wanted to make a big deal of it.
"I left to have Ace 2 years ago. I went back at the end of last year for 10 weeks to complete a storyline.
“So, I guess officially it’s been a year. I never felt the need to announce it which is why we didn’t."
What is Charley Webb doing now?
Charley is now back behind the camera and last month she revealed that she’d be working on two new projects over the summer.
She took to Instagram to share the exciting news, posting a selfie with the caption: “Costume fitting today for my new job. I'm excited for the next 2 projects I'm filming over the summer and to get back on screen.”
While Charley didn’t say what her upcoming projects were, it’s now been revealed that her first major TV role since leaving Emmerdale is for a new ITV programme titled The Long Shadow.
The new drama is about the Yorkshire Ripper, Peter Sutcliffe, who was one of the UK’s most notorious serial killers.
Charley will star in the show alongside Downton Abbey and Corrie actress Katherine Kenny, who is playing Peter Sutcliffe’s second victim Emily Jack.
