Gavin and Stacey star Rob Brydon has finally spoken out about his character Uncle Bryn's sexuality.

The 56-year-old comedian has played the fan favourite since the BBC sitcom first launched back in 2007.

Over the past 14 years, Bryn's sexual orientation has been questioned by fans.

While creators Ruth Jones and Jams Corden have never confirmed Stacey's uncle is homosexual, Rob says he'd be shocked if he wasn't gay.

Speaking on the Tablr Manners podcast, Rob explained: "There's a part of me that doesn't want to say anything because I think it should be in the mind of the audience.

"Obviously they have written it… but it's not ambiguous is it. I'd be surprised if he wasn't.

"I wonder if he's just never acted on it. They've never said to me… it's just what's there in the script."

He added: "“But, you know, the way he gazes at Larry Lamb, who plays Mick…"

Bryn's sexuality has been questioned ever since the famous fishing trip emerged.

A mysterious incident occurred with his on-screen nephew Jason West, which fuelled speculation about his sexuality.

Gavin and Stacey run for three series and returned for a Christmas special in 2019.

The one-off festive episode was watched by 18.5 million people which made it the biggest single comedy episode of a series since records began in 2002.

Alison Steadman, 75, who played Pam Shipman in Gavin and Stacey, has revealed to Daily Star that she has no idea as to whether there will be another episode, never mind a new series.

She explained that nobody dares ask Ruth, 54, or James, 43, if they plan on ever writing again as it's an unwritten rule.

Alison said: "People have never stopped watching it, I meet people all the time and they say 'I didn't see it the first time but I'm catching up with it', it's really grown amazingly, I just love it because it was such a happy time and a lovely series to do, everybody was broken up when we finished.

"Everyone was crying when they did their last take, everyone sort of bowed their heads and cried, including myself and we never thought it would come back."

"So the fact that we did this Christmas special was ridiculous," before admitting that she didn't tell anybody other than her partner that the cast were planning to film the episode.

When asked about the cliffhanging ending that saw Nessa (Ruth Jones) propose to Smithy (James Corden) and whether she had an insight as to what would happen, Alison revealed: "We don't ask, it's kind of a given that you don't go up and say 'Ruth, is there going to be anymore?'

"Believe me, if there's going to be anymore, they will just get on with it and we'll find out, it's not fair to them to start probing and digging, so none of us would dare to do that."
