On Saturday, BBC Breakfast stayed on its usual channel, unlike Matt Tebbutt’s show Saturday Kitchen, which swapped over to BBC Two due to the broadcasting of the Winter Olympics. TV presenter Naga Munchetty alerted viewers to the change while introducing Matt on a video call from his Saturday Kitchen studio. The pair, who have been known to playfully swipe at each other, didn’t let viewers down after the newsreader took a jibe at the TV chef.

Updating BBC viewers on what to expect from his morning programme, Matt spoke with wine expert Olly Smith.

The celebrity cook complimented the guest for his healthy physique, which Olly had confessed was down to the help of his physical trainer.

Olly gushed: “Well, he’s worth every penny. What can I say?- my mother’s pleased. So, therefore, I am pleased,” he told the host.

After the BBC chef signed off, Naga turned to Matt and joked: “Maybe ask Olly for the number?”- making reference to his fitness instructor.

The Food Unwrapped star was left taken aback by the comment and gasped:“Oh, oh harsh!

While guest star Ralf Little, who had witnessed the scene, chimed in: “Oh, oh wow!”

Matt hit back at the journalist: “My nasty appendix has seen off a few pounds, which is why I’m now tucking my shirts in, while I can.”

In jest, Naga giggled: “Ah, the changes, yeah they’re coming.

“No, have a brilliant show guys,” she said.

Recently, the 48-year-old had to undergo emergency surgery to have his appendix removed, which he revealed to loyal followers on social media. A

ngela Hartnett took his place on the show as a temporary measure until he had recovered.

According to the NHS website: “Appendicitis is a painful swelling of the appendix. “Within hours, the pain travels to the lower right-hand side, where the appendix usually lies and becomes constant and severe.”

The TV cook took to Twitter to check in with his doting fans, who wished him a speedy recovery.

Matt said: “Me, a morphine drip and an emergency appendectomy are keeping me from a much anticipated lunch at @manteca_london with @ollysmith @sarah10016 @hardiegrantuk

“But everything and everyone here at The Grange hospital in Gwent have been fantastic. “Couldn’t ask for more from such a brilliant health service.

“So grateful. #nhs #nhsnurse #thegrangehospital #appendectomy.”

Since the procedure, Matt has appeared to be back in good spirits and cooked up a storm on Saturday Kitchen.

Chefs Tim Siadatan and Rukmini Iyer also joined the TV star with their tasty recipes, much to the delight of actor Ralf Little, who made a guest appearance on the show.

The Death in Paradise star, who confessed to reducing his meat consumption, spoke about his choice of Food Heaven, a steamed treacle sponge with custard, and in Food Hell, a spicy bean burger with salsa.

Ralf also spoke about his future with Death in Paradise and his latest podcasting venture.

Saturday Kitchen airs on Saturdays at 10am on BBC One.
