“Yes, people saw love and guess what? That’s what we wanted you to see,” the “Shallow” singer said on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Wednesday night.
Lady Gaga has just one thought for everyone who thinks she and Bradley Cooper looked madly in love during their steamy performance of "Shallow" at the Oscars. Good!
The newly-minted Oscar winner is still soaking in the excitement of her big night this past Sunday, and she even brought her Oscar with her to "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on Wednesday night.
Frankly, she couldn’t believe that people were so hung up on that performance and reading so much into what they assumed must be going on behind the scenes to get a performance so intimate and raw.
When Kimmel brought it up, as he had to, Gaga rolled her eyes and said exactly what she thinks of where rumors like that start and circulate. "First of all, social media, quite frankly, is the toilet of the Internet," she said. "And what it has done to pop culture is just abysmal."
With that as her starting point, Gaga went on to explain that people saw exactly what she and Bradley wanted them to see. "People saw love and guess what? That’s what we wanted you to see," she said. "This is a love song, ‘Shallow.’ The movie ‘A Star is Born’; it’s a love story."
She went on to explain it more for people who struggle to understand acting and creating a piece of performance art. "From a performance perspective it was so important to both of us that we were connected the whole time," she said. "When you’re singing love songs, that’s what you want people to feel."
That she and Bradley Cooper sold it so well people have spent the last few days assuming they must be hooking up and Bradley’s wife Irina Shayk must be consumed with jealousy? "I’m an artist and I guess we did a good job," she laughed. "Fooled ya!"
It’s the internet "toilet" that is casting these aspersions on Bradley and Gaga, and throwing Irina into a terrible position when all she’s doing is supporting her husband’s artistic expression.
In order to survive in the spotlight these days, you have to have a thick skin to that kind of idiocy and luckily, it looks like this trio is weathering this storm of stupid just fine.
