IN recent months, Whitney Dean has been determined to expose serial killer Gray Atkins.
But the EastEnders characters haven't always been at odds with one another. Get the lowdown on their ongoing feud.
Portrayed by Shona McGarty, Whitney Dean is a long-term Albert Square resident, making her first appearance on April 1, 2008.
So when the Atkins couple settled in Walford along with their two children, Whitney quickly noticed them.

Appearing in the Square for the first time in March, 2019, Chantelle (portrayed by Jessica Plummer) and Gray's (Toby-Alexander Smith) seemingly perfect relationship attracts everyone's attention.
Much like any other resident, the couple were often seen in The Vic, where Chantelle first crossed paths with Whitney.
At the time, Chantelle was dealing with some backlash from Kim Fox when she only accepted to work part-time in her hair salon and boasted about moving in to No.1 Albert Square – which is the home Kim had shared with her own husband Vincent.
Behind closed doors, Chantelle was also enduring horrific acts of domestic violence at the hands of Gray.
Although her family were nearby, as fellow Walford residents, Chantelle felt happy to find a new friend in the form of Whitney.
Their bond only grew from there with Whitney asking for Chantelle to model for her clothing brand after she is let down by another model.
Gray was then a background character to his wife's friendship with Whitney but things soon took a turn.

Gray offers his help
Whitney has never been the luckiest in matters of the heart, from her failed relationship with Lee Carter to her rocky romance with Callum Highway.
However, matters only get worse when she was involved with Leo King – a man who was seeking justice for his sex offender father Tony.
A doting boyfriend to her mother Bianca, Tony was eventually accused of grooming Whitney from the age of 12 and was sentenced to prison.
He later took his own life behind bars.
Whitney's relationship with Leo ended when she stabbed him in self-defence.
Ready to save the day, Gray offered to represent her during the case.
This led to Whitney trying to kiss Gray in June, 2020, while she was in a vulnerable and overwhelmed state.
Whitney apologised and Gray continued his work as her lawyer.
Going above and beyond to defend his client, Gray eventually manages to get her out of prison by finding evidence that Leo was stalking her.
An elated Whitney thanked Gray for his efforts, telling Chantelle he was a hero, unaware of his abuse.
Romance is on the cards
As Whitney reeled from the shock of Leo's death and her time in prison, Gray and Chantelle's marriage turned nastier than ever.
In September, 2020, Chantelle was thrown on to an upturned knife in the dishwasher by Gray, after she had tried to leave him with their children.
Whitney grieved Chantelle's death along with Gray, helping him with Mackenzie and Mia as he adapted to the task of being a single father and widower.
However, Whitney soon had other plans as her romantic relationship with Kush Kazemi evolved.
In April, 2021, Kush decided to flee Walford for Dubai with his son Arthur and urged Whitney to tag along.
Little did the lovebirds know that Gray had developed feelings for Whitney and didn't want the object of his obsession to get away from him.
Months after killing Chantelle and Tina Carter, Gray claimed his third victim by pushing Kush off the Walford tube station platform and into an oncoming train after a struggle.
Grieving, Whitney accused Gray of killing Kush due to his alliance with the Mitchells – not knowing she was right on the money.
Whitney then blamed the Mitchell family for Kush's death, still unaware of Gray's obsession.
In October, 2021, following his breakup with Chelsea Fox, Gray opened up to Whitney about his father's death and, as emotions ran high, the pair shared another kiss.
But while they seemed happy, the couple were unable to jump their first hurdle together.
Whitney calls it quits
Chantelle, Tina and EastEnders viewers knew who Gray really was and, soon enough, it was Whitney's turn to see his true colours.
After sharing their first REAL kiss, Whitney let it slip to Gray that she was "relieved" to know about Chelsea's pregnancy – which the lawyer never knew about.
Understandably, Gray was shocked and Whitney was willing to patch things up quickly.
"I was so desperate to tell you but I couldn't, it had to come from Chelsea", she explained.
She however went a step too far in Gray's eyes when she mentioned she was "proud" that Chelsea made her decision to abort the baby as a single and independent woman.
In a rage, Gray turned on Whitney as soon as she told him she had gone to the clinic with Chelsea before the latter changed her mind.
Gray accused her of lying and sneaking around behind his back.
"You're just like all the others", he snapped, "well, that's going to stop, you need to learn, otherwise we can't be together."
Unable to control his anger, Gray turned to the dinner table to grab a knife before encouraging Whitney to leave.
"You trying to scare me? You don't scare me", Whitney struck back before throwing the towel.
