Yellowstone has been airing on The Paramount Network and season four should be arriving soon. The Western melodrama has kept fans on the edge of their seats as John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) vows to protect his beloved ranch at all costs. One of the show’s creators, Taylor Sheridan, said he expects the series will end after season six.
Is Yellowstone ending after season 6?
Yellowstone was created by Sheridan and John Linson and it made its debut in June 2018.
The series continues to follow the conflicts between the Dutton cattle ranch, the Broken Rock Indian Reservation, and land developers.
Season four is still in the making and it is expected to air in the Autumn of 2021.
Fans are waiting to find out what happened to John and his family after they were attacked by anonymous killers.
Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) was caught up in an explosion and Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) was forced to fight off a team of armed men.
Viewers are keen to see what direction the story takes in the upcoming season and beyond.
Sheridan spoke to Deadline about how long he believes the series will continue to air, and he already knows how it is going to end.
He said: “I know how the series ends, and you have to move in a straight line toward that end.
“You can’t walk in circles, waiting to get there, because the show will stagnate. So, you have to keep moving forward, and there have to be consequences in the world, and there has to be an evolution toward a conclusion.”
He said another two seasons could be made but it was not something he would look to extend indefinitely.
He added “I don’t think anyone would want to do that; you’d cheapen the product.
“I haven’t had that conversation with the network or the studio yet. I’m sure it’s coming, but I would think that you would want this to end on an upswing as opposed to a plateau or a descent.”
With this in mind, the series is expected to come to a satisfying end after the sixth season.
However, it is worth noting the series has not been officially renewed for a sixth season yet.
The Paramount Network will make this decision based on the success of the upcoming instalments.
Fans are aware the series cannot go on forever, but they should have another two years of Yellowstone to look forward to.
Due to the continued success of the melodrama, it is believed to have been renewed for a fifth season, ahead of the season four release.
This is not unusual as season four was given the green light before the season three premiere had even aired.
At least fans can rest assured that Sheridan has a clear vision of how he wants the series to end.
This means there should be no unanswered questions in the series finale, which is often the problem.
Rip Wheeler actor Cole Hauser suggested the series has already been renewed for a fifth outing.
In an interview with Kathryn Hall, he said: “Taylor’s working on it right now and I think we will be back sometime in July.
“I’m looking forward to getting back to Montana. I mean, season five is going to be wonderful.”
He said fans would be “happily surprised” over the season four finale, and they are certainly expecting big things.
Yellowstone season 4 will air on Paramount Network in Fall 2021.
