Introducing Kate to the stage, Davina McCall said: “We now turn our attention to nurses to present the award for best nurse.
“I am so happy to welcome one of this country’s most loved presenters who, after her husband contracted Covid, experienced first-hand the care and unbelievable work our NHS does.”
As Kate walked out onto the stage, Davina asked: “Kate, I would love to ask on behalf of all of us how is Derek doing?
Smiling, Kate replied: “He’s had a good day today we did some exercises together before I came out, day at a time but today’s a good day, thank you for asking that’s really kind of you.”

Davina then thanked her for being there and presenting before Kate gave an honest speech about the award.
“I’m here to talk about nurses, I mean, where do you begin there is absolutely no doubt that everything nurses do every day is utterly breathtaking.
“But sometimes it’s the little moments of thoughtfulness that make absolutely all the difference, and it’s one of those that’s led to tonight’s recipient being nominated.”
The winner of The Sun’s Who Cares Wins Award for Best Nurse will be revealed on Channel 4 at 7:30pm this evening.
The star-studded awards took place on Tuesday at London’s Roundhouse and were attended by the Duke of Cambridge and Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Celebrities including David Beckham, Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster, Gary Lineker, Frankie Bridge and Steph McGovern all attended the awards.
Davina McCall presented the awards, which celebrated and thanked the NHS and healthcare heroes, key workers, and ordinary people who care for people.
Best Doctor, Best Nurse, 999 Hero and Ultimate Lifesaver are just some of the awards given out.

The Sun’s Who Cares Wins awards were set up in 2017 to celebrate and thank the NHS and healthcare heroes, key workers and ordinary people who care for us.
Kate recently opened up about her husband’s battle with coronavirus, revealing that he suffers from extreme fatigue and sleeps 20 hours a day.
Talking with Dr Hilary about long COVID on GMB, the presenter said: “The fatigue that Derek has, I know he is an extreme case because he’s got multiple organ challenges.
“But even with some milder cases, you know Derek is sleeping 20 out of 24 hours a day, he has like 10-minute windows, and it’s not just feeling a bit tired.
“He goes white, pale, it’s like everything shuts down, so you don’t want that kind of fatigue even ruling out all other things that people are suffering with long COVID as well,” she explained.
Kate was recently presented with a special award at the TRIC Awards on Wednesday, 15 September, for continuing her incredible career over the past year.
As she picked up the award, she said: “I’m completely swept away by that, thank you so much. It’s been a tough time, hasn’t it?
“For all of us, but people like Emma and people like Roman, who is my colleague at Global and Smooth, and so many people in the room, all the GMB team, have been absolutely amazing.”
