Kate, 53, was back on hand to host Good Morning Britain today alongside friend and co-star Ben Shephard, 45, as she continues to resume her working duties. The presenter has been absent from the show after her husband Derek, 52, was admitted to hospital after testing positive for COVID-19 back in March. As he continues to recover from coronavirus, the journalist has been updating fans on how she and medical staff are trying to help him regain a greater level of consciousness. Back in her best-known role, the broadcaster has explained how he is hopefully going to hear her with the help of technology.
Giving an update to Ben about her husband’s condition, Kate said: “I might be able to go and visit Derek after the show today.
“And in fact, the nurses are going to put Good Morning Britain on for him. They’ve got a TV,” she revealed.
“Obviously we don’t know what he can hear and see but they’re going to put it on this morning. They did actually realise I was on air yesterday.”
“He’s going to hear you in the back of the room somewhere,” Ben remarked, to which his co-star added: “We’re trying everything at the moment.”
The Tipping Point host commented: “It might stimulate some recognition,” before going on to joke Derek might be missing him.

Fans took to Twitter to show their support with one writing: “Kate has been so incredibly brave to speak about this publicly. Much love from my family to yours. Today is the Tomorrow we worried about yesterday and all is well.”
Another added: “Let’s hope hearing your voice Kate in the background on the tv in his room will help towards his recovery, prayers and thoughts are with you and your family always.”
A third commented: “What a brave courageous lady how amazing and inspirational… Praying that Derek hears her lovely voice and responds in some way.”
“Good news. Where there is light there is hope. I wish Derek well and best wishes to @kategarraway and all the family. God bless. X,” a fourth posted.
