Kate Garraway teases ‘personal’ Your Body Uncovered episode that looks at impact of covid

Kate Garraway has teased that the latest instalment of her BBC show, Your Body Uncovered, will be "a very personal one" for her as it deals with the effect of Covid-19 on the lungs.

Taking to Instagram, the Good Morning Britain presenter wrote: "Tonight's #YourBodyUncovered is a very personal one for me as we look into the impact of #covid on the lungs. Knowledge is power though & I hope that understanding more helps you arm yourself with what you need to say healthy. Let me know what you think!"

During the show, Kate meets Rozi and her husband Joni who both contracted covid when restrictions eased last year.

Rozi ended up in hospital for 11 days and met up with Kate six weeks after being discharged to take a closer look at the impact the virus has had on her lungs.

"In the UK nearly a third of us have contracted Covid-19. But what if you could see the damage that the disease can do to your lungs?", asks Kate at the start of the show.

She quickly warms to Rozi, who explains that she'd "never felt so bad in life" and describes the moment she had to pull herself up a ramp to get to A&E.

"I thought I was going to die there and then," she admits.

Kate opens up to the couple as they wait to be seen by Dr Guddi Singh: "I don't know if you know, but my husband got sick at the very beginning of the pandemic when they didn't even really know the effects on the body. A lot of them, of course, we're still discovering now."

As the team dive deeper into the ways in which Rozi was affected by Covid, Kate and Joni watch on. During this time, Joni points out that Kate has a lot of medical knowledge.

Kate responds, laughing: "Well I've had a bit of a crash course the last couple of years to be fair."

Joni adds: "I'm somewhat humbled because I know that you're going through a lot and far far worse than we went through."

Kate, who has been dealing with Derek's illness since he contracted the virus at the start of the pandemic, replied: "Well, it's very sweet of you to say so, but actually his lungs are doing better.

"You know, he's out of the coma, he's off the tracheotomy, he's breathing on his own, but the damage is throughout the whole body."

Watch Kate Garraway dive deeper into the effects of covid in Your Body Uncovered, 9 March, BBC Two at 8pm.
