Coronation Street star Katie McGlynn, who played Sinead Tinker in the ITV soap has spoken out on the advice she’s received from other soap stars who have taken part in the competition. The actress is one of 15 celebrities taking to the dance floor on Saturday for the first time to find out their Strictly Come Dancing professional partner.

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other press, Katie said: “My friend Catherine Tyldesley did it a couple of years ago and she give me some sound advice.

“She told me to just enjoy every minute of it because you’re going to have the best time.

“Relax, remember that you know you are going to know it by Friday, you’re going to know it by Saturday.

“It doesn’t feel like you are going to at the beginning but it all comes together and just relax and try and enjoy it as much as possible.”

“I was messaging Lisa Riley when I knew and I was very cautious when I was texting her,” Katie said.

“But she knew straight away she was like, ‘You’re doing Strictly, aren’t you Katie?’ I was like, ‘Maybe…’

“But she said the same thing she said, ‘Just relax, enjoy it and be yourself.’”

“I’m daft as a brush she said, ‘Be as daft as a brush’ because it’s a fun relaxed show,” she continued.

“That’s my personality and hopefully my dance moves will be okay.”

Opening up on why she wanted to take part, Katie said: “I wanted to do Strictly this year because I watch it every year.

“I’m always surprised by how much fun the contestants are having and I’ve always wanted to do it myself.”
